RGS Guildford Nanjing
After preparing for more than a month, I was still worried that the kids would forget the words or forget to appear on the stage until the afternoon rehearsal. The lines in English are very difficult for middle school students. However, they made it, and performed very well!
——Song Xiaowen, a teacher of Middle School
As night falls, the fantastic play is about to open.
On April 25, teachers and students from the two academies of RGS Guildford Nanjing gave an astonishing performance of the traditional British dramas Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream based on Shakespeare’s classical masterpieces.
The whole process, from adaptation, role positioning, rehearsal to the formal performance, was completed by middle school and high school students. In a month, they spent countless after-class breaks, tutor time, and nighttime on doing rehearsals and polishing the details of each action. Under the guidance of Chinese and foreign teachers, they pondered over the pronunciation of each English word.
In the end, an unforgettable and wonderful contest between academies was presented.

Your Future Your Brilliance
As the first Chinese branch of the Royal Grammar School (Guilford), RGS Guildford Nanjing inherits the academy boarding system, puts students at the center of education through planning, exploration and collaboration across age groups. Under the leadership of the Principal Matt and British foreign teachers such as Eddie, it also embraces the ancient and pure British drama culture.
When these children reproduced the joy, pain and madness of the people in the play with their shocking performance by combining drama, song and dance and English on the stage, they were also subverting themselves through self-reliance, and embracing the confidence for the next moment with innovation and breakthrough.
Today’s dramatic performance makes me deeply aware of how excellent our kids are. This performance is completely beyond my expectation. I am proud of them!
——Matt, British Principal of RGS Guildford Nanjing
In the nearly two-hour performance in English, each child has his own role and lines.
On ordinary days, some of them may be silent and introverted, or not good at showing off themselves; they may be aloof and reserved at the rebellious stage, or may be helplessness and perplexed when receiving the academic transcript... However, when they show their uniqueness and vitality to teachers, parents and the world at large with all tags removed, education is brought back to its pure form, and their brilliance is moving at this point.
Only the students who gain belief in the education process can start a colorful life with confidence.
If life is just like a diamond, the goal of RGS Guildford Nanjing is to polish at least one side of this diamond so that every child can live a shining life and find his own unique position in this broad society.
